Land-based and Maritime Korean Employees in Offshore Plants Expected to Go Global

Offshore Technology Training Institute(President, Oh Jin-seok) under Korea Maritime and Ocean University(KMOU) has become the first Approved Test Center for Marlins English Language Test among Korean universities.

Marlins English Language Test run by U.K maritime book publisher and maritime English training and test institute Marlins is a maritime specialized English test and is different from other English tests like TOEIC which focuses on business situations and academic-oriented TOEFL. Marlins English Language Test is aimed to assess English understanding of land-based workers and seafarers associated with offshore exploration and production facility for the maritime oil and gas industry worldwide and thus places emphasis on assessing English understanding of a variety of working situations including maritime safety rather than on technical knowledge on the industry.

President Oh Jin-seok of Offshore Technology Training Institute said, "Achieving qualification as the Approved Test Center for Marlins English Language Test, the institute will be able to greatly contribute to enhancing capability of land-based and maritime employees working for Korean offshore plants" and added, "the institute will also effectively support Korean workers to advance into the international market through various training programs including international certification course implemented by the Offshore Technology Training Institute."
