The Center for International Affairs of Korea Maritime and Ocean University (President: Park Han-il) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a mutual cooperation with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) on October 27.
According to the MoU, the two parties will operate an education program for the ICS Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), provide lectures and short-term programs for KMOU students and establish a systematic international-level network through sharing the information and data.
The ICS was founded in 1911 in the United Kingdom and awarded a Royal Charter in 1920. Now, it operates 25 branches. The candidate who passes the PQE organized by the ICS can gain individual professional membership, which is recognized as being granted to those of great influence in the world’s shipping industry.
The President said, “After the shipping crisis in Korea after the Hanjin Shipping’s downfall, the need to nurture professionals in the field has been emphasized. The MoU will contribute to training talents with the recognized membership and strengthening the competitiveness in the domestic shipping industry by attracting the ICS branch in Busan and co-operating the educational program.
