Park Han-il, President of Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU) visited three universities of sisterhood relationship, located in Dalian, China, from October 31 to November 2 to discuss measures to boost international exchange activities.

The three universities—Dalian Maritime University (DMU), Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Dalian Ocean University (DOU)—are known for their academic excellence in the maritime·ocean engineering·fisheries field of China. They have consistently promoted educational cooperation and exchange with the KMOU in order to nurture global talents in the field.

In the meeting with Sun Yuqing, President of the DMU, Mr. Park suggested ways for a pragmatic exchange based on the existing relationship by using training ships for various educations and trainings and encouraging the faculty exchange between the two.

Invited by the DOU as a sea sky scholar, Mr. Park has made great efforts to boost academic exchange activities and joint research programs. Prof. Wang Hansong, Secretary of Party Committee, expressed his gratitude for the Park’s efforts and emphasized the need of taking a further step towards exchanges in the ocean science and engineering area.

Yao Jie, the DOU President, also stressed the importance of nurturing experts in the ocean field and hoped more active exchanges with the KMOU. In the response of his opinions, President Park asked him to exchange professors and develop an exchange program for the faculty.

President Park also mentioned, “The more frequent exchanges with the three universities in the form of the faculty exchange, the student exchange and joint researches will play an important role in improving the KMOU’s competitiveness in the world. In addition, it can greatly contribute to nurturing global talents in the maritime field to overcome challenges which the world’s shipbuilding and shipping industries have encountered.”
